Name: Don Bennett Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Greenville, SC Time: 2000-02-25 07:59:13 Comments: I am researching the connection between the Bennetts and Terrys of Pittsylvania County, Va. in the late 1700's and early 1800's. In am descended from Jesse Lewis Bennett b. 1801. Family bibles list his parents as John Bennett and Mary (Polly) Lewis. I am trying to connect this John to a John Bennett who married Elizabeth Dodson. John and Elizabeth had a son named John, b. 1863. He appears in the minutes of Broad Run Baptist Church and in the older John's will. My problem is that there are two Johns who could fit; John Bennett m. Polly Lewis Mar 06, 1795, and John Bennett m. Polley Terry Nov 07, 1796. The Sept-Oct, 1999 Issue of The Terry Family Historian has an article written by Margie G. Brown about Benjamin and Delilah (Motely) Terry. One of the sources she quotes is a will of Benjamin Terry, Bk 11, Page 473 prob 15 Dec 1817. I have this will. One of Benjamin's heirs in this will is Polley Bennett who was given one hundred seventy four pounds in property. Does anyone have any information on how Polley connects to the Bennett family? Is this the Polley that married John Bennett? Especially, who are the parents of this John Bennett? Also, there is a marriage record showing Polley Terry married Stephen Yeatts on 8 April 1819 in Pittsylvania. County. Is this the same Polley? I have not yet begun to research this line, but my grandmothers name is Lucille Yates. Her family goes a long way back in Pittsylvania County although the spelling has changed over the years. It could be I am connected to the Terrys through this marriage also. I would like any information anyone could share about the connection of the Terrys to the Bennetts (or the Yates). I am particularly interested in contacting Margie Brown who wrote the above article. She may well already have the information that I need. Don Bennett |

Name: Jo Howell Marquis Website: None Referred by: From a Friend From: Vicksburg, Mississippi Time: 2000-02-14 13:59:21 Comments: For years I have searched for information about my maternal greatgrandfather. His name was HENRY D.TERRY. The D is really debatable. Some in the family call it Davidson and others say it's Duncastle. However, he was born June 16, 1817, we think in Alabama. He had a brother, ALBERT G.TERRY. Albert was a Confederate veteran and Henry was in the Home Guard (or whatever that title was). Henry went on leave and got sick and died September 20, 1862 in or around Minter City, MS. We have never found any sign of a stone or marker for him and can't even find what his parents' names were. Does anybody have anything about this man? I know he lived because I'm here! He married ANN ELIZA MEUX in Carroll County,MS, January 23, 1851. We have proof of the marriage and a copy of his furlough. The original of the furlough is in the family. I would so like to find out more about this man whose blood I inherited. Jo Howell Marquis |

I was looking for parents of Thomas Terry, born c.1653 in Bucks Co., PA. I went another way and found that three Terry's immigrated to the U.S. from England on the ship James in 1635. Assuming they are brothers -- Thomas, Robert and Richard. You have the wills of Thomas and Richard in one of your databases. In the will of Thomas, he mentions his son Thomas. Perhaps this Thomas is the father of the 1653 Thomas. Any thoughts? |

These earlier issues covered Northern and Southern Terry families and contains references to most of the major Terry Clans North and South. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or 4.0 to read the files which are large. I think it will help some of the "newbies" in Terry research... maybe "oldbies" too! Let's get Terry'Fied |

My great grandfather was Moses Green Berry Hill Terry. I think he was your great's brother. After my grandmother Terry died in 1990 I found the old Terry's quarterly books that Robert M. Well....thanks for being alive! I'll continue to cruise to the Terry Family Historian. |

Nov. 6, 1878 in Lynchburg or Campbell Co., VA, buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg). He married Julina F. MERRITT on Feb. 15, 1849 and they had the following children: Julia A., William Louis (my wife's gg-grandfather), Victoria, Eliza, and Judith, all born in Campbell Co. Julina was his second wife. His first may have been Elizabeth (Eliza) FARRAR of Appomatox Co., VA (the spouse buried next to him is "Eliza", d. June 18, 1848), but they had no children that lived past infancy. He appears to have had a brother William B. TERRY. I have not been able to locate Nathaniel's birthplace or identify his parents or any other siblings, or determine if he was related to the extensive TERRY family established in Bedford Co., VA since the 1700's. Any information on his origins would be much appreciated, and I'd be happy to share any information I have on his descendents. |

He was married three times to Louisa Eves, Celia Bashula Cheatham and Louise Bracken. I cannot find his father's first name, but he was born sometime around 1799, most likely in North Carolina. His wife's name was Martha Brackin and they were married in Warren Co. TN. Ever run across any information on this line? I appreciate anything you know and can share. Thanks for all the hard work............ VERY IMPRESSIVE! |

Name: W. Samuel Terry IV Website: Referred by: Net Search From: Glasgow, KY Time: 1999-07-29 00:18:05 Comments: I am searching for information on Stephen Terry (d. 1822) in Botetourt Co., VA who married Sarah Davis, daughter of Nathaniel Davis. Stephen and Sarah can be traced through several VA counties including Louisa, Amherst, Rockbridge and Botetourt counties. Their children were Nathaniel Davis Terry, Drucilla Terry (Depp), Bennet W. Terry and John Alfred Terry. I am searching for Stephen's parents with no luck. He was supposed to be a cousin of Stephen Terry who married Mildred Bagby, but I've had no luck making a connection. Also, in his 1822 will he bequeaths a horse to his nephew Jonathan Eads. Said Jonathan would have to be from the Terry side and one would believe his mother would have been Stephen Terry's sister. I have found no record of an Eads marrying a Terry. Any help would be appreciated. |

Name: Fran West Website: West/Hykal Homepage Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Michigan Time: 1999-06-24 15:23:29 Comments: My "Brick Wall" Terry line ends with Kibble/Keeble Terry b abt 1799/1800 VA d, aft 1861 TN m. to Rebecca b. abt 1801 KY? . Appears to be in the household of Thomas Terry b 1760-1770 in 1830 Bedford Co TN Census, Was in 1832 Bedford Co. TN, 1850 Marshall Co. TN, 1860 Sugartree, Decatur Co. TN census. Has brothers Robert Henry Terry m. to Elizabeth Bobo, John Terry who died between 1840-1850 Lauderdale Co. AL, and poss. Thomas Terry m. to E. McGill ( they have Bedford Co TN family ties) who is in ARK. This Thomas has a son named Keeble b. 1848 TN. Kibble's brother- in- law was a James M. Proby will dated 1861 proven 1867 in which he names Kibble, Robert, John as his "brothers". Wifes name unknown. Orphans of John are Dolly Ann Terry age 16 ( poss. Elizabeth Ann Terry) and Daniel Terry and they are living in the Morrison household in 1850 Lauderdale Co. AL , Daniel is age 14 and is deaf. Here is a question for you Terry researchers out there. In the household of Richard Everett Terry in 1850 and 1860 AL are listed 3 males named John. Thomas & Keeble/Kibble. I am told THESE ARE NOT Richard's children. Are they the missing orphans of my Kibble's brother John? They fit the same age group. If they are, than what family connection is there between my Terry line and Richard Everett Terry's Terry line? Hillard Judge Terry is also from Richard's line and he is married to a Smith. My Kibble's daughters full name is Nancy Smith Terry. I know this is most unlikey but when you hit a brick wall you look at any possibilities available. A clue is a clue. |

I've come across the surname before and thought I would research more on the TERRY's. I have several TERRY's listed in the Lake Providence, Louisiana census records. I also do research for Carroll County, AR, too... there was a real TERRY/WAGGONER or TERRY/AMBROSE feud here (in Berryville, Arkansas) in the late 1800's. Were any of your TERRY's a part of that? Just thought I'd drop you a note to make a connection. You've done a lot a research... I enjoyed your site very much. Sincerely, Sandy Schmitz |
