HOW TO GET AROUND THE WEB SITE Leaving a message If you move your mouse over certain words and phrases you will see a hand appear. This indicates a link to a file or web link. For example if you click on the the "TFH ONLINE" link you will see a page showing several issues of the Terry Family Historian from years past and the present Electronic Terry Family Historian©. It is important to leave a correct email address so others can contact you and possibly help you. This is the preferred method to place queries or questions in the Electronic Terry Family Historian©.

HOW TO SEARCH ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS ON THE WEB SITE A little History If you are new to Genealogy or just now looking at the Terry Family Historian© for the first time you might feel a little bit overwhelmed when you visit the site. There is more on this website than meets the eye. You will encounter the quarterlies which totaled as many as 200 pages per year. So there is lots of text to look through. When I first started publishing the Terry Family Historian© in 1982 I used a typewriter. In that same year I purchased a computer to keep up with the information and generated subject indexes for the issues from 1982 to 1988. The Terry Family Historian© began in 1982 as a printed quarterly which was mailed to paid subscribers. It was discontinued as a paper publication in 1988. In September, 1998, the former Editor, Robert "Mike" Terry, began placing the old issues of the TFH on the Terry-Family-Historian web site and began to work on publishing a free "on the web" bi-monthly electronic version of the TFH beginning with January-February 1999. You will find there is a Topical Index for the old TFH issues on the TFH home Page. Thanks to the advances in computer technology we have today in year 2000 -- you can index entire web sites electronically on line. For example, you can search the entire web site using the PICO search engine on the TFH homepage. This is a unique search engine and is my favorite because it searches for words in "context". In other wards it shows words that exist before and after the search word or words you enter. If you want to search for one word you just type that word i.e. Smith. However, if you want to search for John Smith you will need to type "John Smith" with quotation marks in your search. If you wanted to look for Caddo County you would type "Caddo County" in the PICO search box. What you will get is a listing of every document and the hyperlink in the Terry Family Historian© which contains for instance Smith or John Smith. After opening one of these documents if you have
Internet Explorer under the Edit option you would choose Find or press the
Ctl+F keys to find each occurrence of the word or words you initially were searching
for in the document. |
I do private consulting for fee on Web Page/Database design after hours. However, the Electronic version of the Terry Family Historian is free and is provided as a service to TERRY researchers. |
